FAQs

Got a question? We’re here to help.

  • What exactly is a slatmill?

It's a non-motorized treadmill - your dog controls the pace, not a motor. That makes it one of the safest ways to exercise a dog, since there is no risk of them being forced to keep up with a speed they're not comfortable with.

  • My dog is skittish/anxious. Will this work for them?

Yes. This is one of the most common questions we get and it's actually one of our favorite parts. Watching a nervous dog work through their hesitation, at their own pace, and come out the other side more confident is genuinely rewarding to witness. The Intake run is built for exactly this - no pressure, no rushing, just patience while your dog explores the equipment and builds trust in a calm, controlled environment.

  • Is it safe? Could my dog get hurt?

Yes, it's safe. Since the mill isn't motorized, your dog sets the pace, and a trained handler stays with them the entire time adjusting as needed. Sessions take place in our climate-controlled Sprinter, so your dog stays comfortable regardless of weather.

  • How much does it cost?

Intake run is $10. After that 30 min sessions are $50. There are multi dog and multi session discounts as well.

  • How long does a session take?

Most sessions run about 30 minutes total, including warm-up and cool down.

  • Is there an age, breed, or size limit?

We have two slatmills to fit your dog properly - one for medium dogs (roughly 15-60 lbs) and one for large dogs (roughly 30-95 lbs). We work with a range of dogs, from active young pups to seniors who need gentle low impact movement. We'll assess fitness level and any health considerations during the intake run.

  • Do I need to be home, or do anything to prepare?

For the Intake Run we do need you to be there so we can go over your dog's goals, health and any other special considerations together. After that first session, we can arrange sessions without you needing to be there - just let us know what works best for you.

  • What if it is raining or too hot/cold out?

We can reschedule for extreme weather conditions. The  van is climate controlled so most weather is not a problem.

  • How often should my dog do this?

Most dogs benefit from 1-2 sessions per week, but we'll tailor a plan to your dogs energy level and goals.

  • Can you work with multiple dogs in one visit?

Yes. We have two slatmills to fit your dog properly - one for medium dogs (roughly 15-60 lbs) and one for large dogs (roughly 30-95 lbs).

  • Do you come to my area?

Niceville, Destin, Valparaiso, and Miramar Beach are all available to book directly on site.  If you are outside that area don't let that stop you - give us a call at (850) 328-2905 and we will do our best to arrange a visit. Since we are a mobile service appointments outside our core area are booked by phone so we can group visits toghter and keep travel effiicient.

Our non-motorized slatmill allows your dog to control their own pace—whether walking, trotting, or running—providing a natural, low-impact form of exercise tailored to their fitness level, age, and energy needs.

Your Session Includes:

  • Arrival and Setup Our professional handler arrives at your home with the slatmill equipment in our mobile unit. We'll discuss your dog's health, goals, and any special considerations.
  • Positive Introduction — Especially for first-time users, we start slowly and gently. Your dog will have time to explore the slatmill, get comfortable, and build positive associations through encouragement, praise, and treats.
  • Personalized Workout — Sessions typically feature a short warm-up, followed by 10–20 minutes of active movement (adjusted based on your dog's fitness and comfort). The dog-powered design ensures they set the speed—no forcing or unexpected acceleration.
  • Supervision and Safety — A trained handler provides one-on-one attention throughout, monitoring form, offering motivation, and ensuring safety with proper harness use and gradual pacing.
  • Cool-Down and Wrap-Up  We'll include a gentle cool-down, water breaks as needed, and time for your dog to rest. You'll receive feedback on the session and tips for ongoing fitness at home.

Most dogs quickly adapt and even look forward to their sessions. Results often include better energy balance, improved stamina, mental stimulation, and overall well-being—rain or shine, without the need for long outdoor walks. We prioritize your dog's comfort and enjoyment every step of the way. Contact us to schedule a session and see the wag in action!

Benefits of slatmill exercise.

  • Superior cardiovascular fitness: Builds heart strength, improves circulation, and enhances endurance through sustained, self-paced running or trotting.
  • Low-impact on joints: The smooth slatted belt minimizes stress on hips, elbows, and paws compared to hard surfaces like concrete, making it ideal for growing puppies, seniors, or dogs with joint concerns.
  • Full-body muscle development: Natural resistance from the rollers targets core, legs, shoulders, and back muscles, promoting lean muscle tone and balanced strength.
  • Weight management: Helps maintain a healthy weight by burning calories efficiently and supporting better metabolism and digestion.
  • Mental stimulation & behavioral improvement: Tires out high-energy dogs physically and mentally, reducing boredom, anxiety, destructive chewing, excessive barking, or hyperactivity for a calmer demeanor.
  • Boosted confidence & focus: Controlled, distraction-free sessions build self-assurance (great for shy or reactive dogs) and improve attention span.
  • Customizable & stress-free: Dogs control their own speed—no forced pace—leading to more enjoyable, natural movement and stronger owner-pet bonds in a familiar home environment.
